Shades of pink continue to pack a punch this season. Usher in spring by wearing soft rose floral dresses or solid blush colored tops. If your tastes run to bolder colors, try accessorizing with a hint of pink.

Spring is right around the corner. Soon you will cast off your boots in favor of open toed shoes. Until then, think pink, feminine kitten heels, and soft neutral pants.

Cabi clothing for spring

Friday, May 8th, 2015

I met my first Cabi consultant, Terry Sadowski, at a business networking event in downtown Greenville several months ago. Before launching a career with Cabi, Terry owned Plaza Suite, a popular clothing boutique in Greenville, South Carolina. The adorable leopard print Cabi coat and black slim ankle length pants that Terry wore that evening peeked my interest in the Cabi line. A few weeks later, I came upon three Cabi pieces in a client’s closet while conducting a wardrobe review with her. The quality, versatility, and fine fit of all three pieces impressed me. When I began creating outfits for my client from the clothes that remained in her closet after the edit, It quickly became apparent that her Cabi pieces stood out as the backbone of her wardrobe. Almost everything she owned went well with those three Cabi items.

When Terry approached me about hosting a Cabi party, I jumped at the chance to introduce my clients and friends to the line, and receive enormously discounted clothes for myself. I purchased an ultra soft pair of blush colored skinny jeans, a blue and white striped tee shirt with an eye catching asymmetrical hem, and a light-weight anorak jacket, ideal for Greenville’s springtime temperatures. Not only did my guests love the line, but many of them bought multiple pieces.

Here is a little taste of Cabi’s spring collection. I can see wearing this outfit to Artisphere this weekend.

Spring 2015 fashion trends

Friday, March 27th, 2015

After this winter’s prolonged stay, South Carolina women from the Lowcountry to the Upstate are ready to break out their sundresses and sandals. The word variety sums up this spring’s fashion trends. Bohemian dressers welcome the return of fringe, maxi skirts, and peasant blouses. Classic types have their eyes on shirtwaist dresses, whereas fashion trendsetters probably already own moto style jackets and sneakers.

Could you see yourself wearing any of these trends?

How to stay on track to achieve your new year’s resolutions

Monday, February 9th, 2015

Believe it or not the new year is already 38 days old. Time races by; days run into weeks and before you know it February will fade from memory. If you’ve read my blog postings lately, you know that I made a few resolutions for 2015 that I’m serious about achieving. I committed to getting in shape after an injury wreaked havoc with my fitness level. I also vowed to further streamline my wardrobe and stock up on casual and activewear wardrobe basics.

Experts advise that regular check-ins help keep us on track to achieving our goals. These check-ins provide us an opportunity to honestly assess our progress and also fine tune our strategies for success. Today I listened to the experts and paused to consider how well I’m doing. This exercise yielded positive results. I tweaked my fitness regimen to include daily stretching exercises and longer aerobic workouts. I also collected additional clothes to donate and consign, and made a list of items to purchase for spring.

If you’ve commited to enhancing your style in 2015, then check out “Ten steps to a stellar style” in 2015″, which appears in the January issue of Palmetto Parent. In this article I offer tips for advancing your style, such as adding two new trends to your wardrobe and breaking up black with touches of color. Trending colors for spring include soft shades such as aquamarine and yellow. Sports inspired clothing and colorful suede pieces rank high on the list of top spring trends.

Have you put style on the back burner so far this year in spite of your desire to look more polished and put together? Don’t despair. The path to success includes setbacks, and taking little style steps each day could lead to transformative image changes. How about spending some time this week in your closet to help you decide what you need for spring? This will ready you to shop during Presidents’ Day weekend for new wardrobe basics, like the ones featured in this set.

Vests make magic

City Chic

Marni printed blouse, $365 / Topshop / White House Black Market slim pants / White House Black Market t-bar shoes / Oasis handbag, $43 / Sandy Hyun / Carolee LUX

I’ve always loved vests. I purchased my all time favorite one back in 1992 at Nordstrom. I still wear this black suede number with black leather trim, and patch pockets. I always feel sharp and put together in it. Besides that, the vest provides extra warmth in the winter when worn over a sweater.

Last week I checked out the Derek Lam’s DesigNation Collection at Kohl’s in advance of my writing about it for the Examiner.com. Included in the collection is a streamlined black crepe vest that drapes beautifully and looks expensive. I especially like the way it skims the torso. I’ve been on the lookout for a vest that exactly matches the design and weight of this one. Since it fit perfectly and cost $38 with a Kohl’s coupon, I bought it.

Lam’s designs speak to contemporary women who want stylish clothes that are also functional. Many of the pieces in his collection, like the black vest, could be dressed up or down. Inspired by my vest purchase and this season’s black and white trend, I created an outfit that showcases this versatile wardrobe piece.

An online reviewer gave this item 4 stars and has these words to say about it: “…..this vest is the kind of piece that I can see wearing for years to come”. Nicely said.

And the winner is….emerald

Sunday, February 17th, 2013

The Pantone Color Institute selected emerald as the color of the year. Associated with harmony, nature, and rebirth, emerald suits warm as well as cool complexions, and illuminates eyes and hair. Both versatile and becoming, this award winning hue complements blue, yellow, black, purple and red. An emerald blouse livens up a neutral suit, and an emerald print silk scarf instantly adds sophistication to jeans and a t-shirt. I posted 32 enticing emerald items on Pinterest. Perhaps some of these pieces will inspire even the color shy to go green.
